Kristian Lars Ahlmark
Partner/ Design Director

Kristian Lars Ahlmark is a Partner and Design Director of the Copenhagen office at Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects where he manages projects globally and leads the firm’s work in the United States. Since joining the studio in 2001, Kristian has been involved in all phases and functions of the architectural process, from visualization and sketching to realization. In collaboration with the other partners, he has been involved in developing the design profile of all projects.

Kristian has shown his great technical skill and creative energy in a large number of the studio’s major competition projects, including Monroe Blocks in Detroit, the company’s first U.S. project; VIA, a mixed-use symbolic focal point for the new modern Oslo, Norway; a 22,310 m² educational facility for the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht, The Netherlands; and Malmö Live, the concert hall, hotel and congress center in Sweden that won the Swedish Building of the Year Award 2016 (Årets Bygge).

As a driver of the company’s expansion into Asia, Kristian has led numerous projects and competitions in China such as the prizewinning Andersen Garden in Beijing, The Xuhui Cultural Riverfront development in Shanghai and the prestigious international competition on the former Shanghai EXPO site.

Kristian lectures regularly on a variety of topics spanning the architectural process at universities, conferences and organizations worldwide.
